OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
• Deliver technical exploration expertise across the Africa Business Unit to maximise value from operating assets. • Support the Manager – Brownfields Exploration with site exploration budgets, structural geology, target generation, orebody interpretation and modelling to improve exploration success and downstream resource estimation.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Support safe exploration delivery by modelling the Company’s safety values and assisting with investigations where required. • Establish and support systems, processes and drilling programs that deliver to plan, schedule and budget in line with corporate standards. • Support exploration pipelines, life of mine exploration planning, and site exploration programs to grow and replace Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves. • Provide technical guidance in drilling design, geological and geophysical interpretation, target generation, orebody interpretation and geological modelling for resource estimation. • Support best practice geological data collection, logging, sampling, data storage, drilling logistics, and contract management for drilling and assay laboratory services. • Coach site-based exploration personnel, support reporting, compliance, technical due diligence, and effective engagement across sites, Business Unit and technical functions.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Degree qualification in Geology or related discipline. • Postgraduate qualification highly desirable.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
• 10 – 15 years relevant brownfields exploration experience in operating mining environments, preferably with open pit and underground exposure. • Demonstrated experience leading large brownfields drilling programs and exploration teams. • Proven experience in structural interpretation and geological modelling for target generation. • Demonstrated experience managing large exploration budgets to deliver Resource and Reserves additions. • Exposure to multisite or regional roles is desirable, preferably within Africa or similar large-scale gold operations. • Strong track record of success in leadership positions in the resources industry. • Advanced geological understanding of Archean gold terranes and sound knowledge of geological and geophysical exploration techniques. • Strong strategic, analytical and independent judgement, with the ability to manage competing priorities aligned to business objectives. • Strong leadership, coaching, interpersonal, influencing and communication skills. • Capability in financial decision making, risk management and operational budgeting. • Competence in exploration program design, geological data management, quality management and contractor management. • Ability to work across cultures and willingness to undertake business travel.
