AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Senior Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant.


The purpose of this role is to ensure maximum efficiency of equipment and high plant availability in a safe and sustainable manner by efficiently and effectively maintaining and improving all fixed plant mechanical installations.



  • Accountable for own safety, the safety of Technicians (Duty of Care). The accountability extends to monitoring of contractors providing services to the Maintenance department. Report positive performance and concerns to the Superintendent: Mechanical Maintenance for action. Objective is zero injuries.
  • Organise and chair daily prestart meetings for the Mechanical Maintenance Team meetings to communicate safety, environmental and operational performance issues
  • When required lead investigations into events / incidents (including HSE&C, financial or reputational loss) for the Maintenance Department, incorporating the findings into corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the incident
  • Participate in development and review of operating procedures and risk assessments
  • Contribute to achieving zero reportable environmental incidents
  • Coordinate task allocation and monitor the quality of work by the Technicians, contractors and other service providers, follow up on the completion of tasks and projects by proving guidance, feedback, responding to questions and providing instructions on how to complete aspects of the work, within the boundaries described by the Manager
  • Provide feedback to the Superintendent: Mechanical Maintenance regarding the quality and performance of tasks executed by the Technicians so that the Superintendent: Mechanical Maintenance can monitor the effectiveness of the team and conduct Personal Effective Reviews and Appraisals
  • Lead a group of mechanical tradespeople consisting of mechanical fitters and boilermakers. Together with the leading hand co-ordinate the day to day work orders and assisting with any breakdown work.
  • Supporting the Superintendent role when in times of their absence
  • Overseeing the installation and maintenance of all fixed plant equipment associated with the processing plant to a high standard.
  • Actively utilise SAP and the work management system to ensure maintenance work orders and defects are accurately recorded and information is correct and up-to-date
  • Continuously strive to improve, by searching and listening to new ways of performing jobs and new technology.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements on tooling and components to enable continuous improvement of the Maintenance Department.
  • Facilitate the maintenance of all fixed plant. This involves maintaining Crushers, Conveyor Systems, Pumps, Pipe Work, SAG Mills, Ball Mill, Vibrating Screens & Feeders, Cranes & Hoists, Cyclones, Compressors, Blowers and all associated Tanks, Launders and Steelworks. The tasks involved in maintaining this equipment will include, but not necessarily be limited to, Welding, Painting, Grinding and Fitting.
  • Supervise the installation of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment in compliance with relevant AGAG Standards
  • Assist with shutdown co-ordination and execution.
  • Monitor costs within the department so to keep within the allocated budget.







  • Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses.




  • An experienced mechanical maintenance engineer with 10+ years’ experience in, preferably Gold Process Plant maintenance
  • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC) and Plant Shutdown Maintenance
  • Experience working in environments with noise, dust, elevated work areas, confined work areas, extremes of temperature, water, slurry
  • Knowledge of SAP PM module


Technical and Leadership Competencies


  • Experience in the supervision of a multi-skilled and multi-discipline workforce
  • Experience in using computerised ERP systems, preferably SAP
  • Competent in operating computers including using MS Office products
  • Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organisation
